Should Scotland Celebrate Tarten Day

Should we in Scotland celebrate Tarten Day & celebrate the day the Decleration of Arbroath was signed. What's your view on this?

certainly we should celebrate the day that the declaration of arbroath was signed. this should be Scotland's national day.

Don't think we should celebrate 'tartan day' though.
Morph

Tartan day could be marketed in the same was as the irish do with st patricks day, it may aid the Scottish image in places such as America as they seem to like the idea of 'their roots'

We should celebrate all of our historical days, but tartan day is nothing to do with anything other than marketing, its a load of bollx and the US should import St Andrews day rather than making up their own day and selling it back to us.

.........exactly the point I was trying to make, cheers Rinty.

Maby we can call are holiday Decleration of Arbroath Day or Independence Day since Tartan Day is mainly for either Americans or Canadians who have some Scottish Blood in them.

how about just 'Arbroath Day', straight to the point and boosting tourism and interest in a small town as well?

An Arbroath Festival anyone?

Morph, as an American I must admit that yes we do enjoy knowing about our roots. But I must disagree that it is more than just an idea. Most of us have lived here for our entire lives and have been separated from the lands of our ancestors. I know at least for me the stories and history of these places were not passed down from generation to generation, so we have no idea what our true culture is. I for one want to learn. I have both Scottish and French heritage, but I must admit I am drawn to the Scottish side. Is is wong for me to get whatever information that I can? Unfortunately some information is sensationalized and commercialized. But things like tartens and family crests let us feel closer our heritage.

thank god for that i was afraid people might think this was a great idea.

What clan are you, Buff?

From what I have found thus far it has to be either Forbes or Buchanan. I believe it may be closer to Forbes. But I have more searching to do. It is very difficult because partically everybody from that side of my family has passed away so I am doing this completely on my own.
