SNP hold Lochee Ward Dundee City Council

http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/dund..._publications/publication_913.pdf

SNP almost 49% on first preferences

Interesting to see the transfer of votes. Both SSP and Solidarity votes giving more second preference votes to Labour than the SNP (or in the case of the SSP, who were out first, to Solidarity). Most of the Tory's votes went to the Lib Dem candidate.

As I understand, it's solid SNP territory. If it was in the central belt, it'd likely be solid Labour - as I understand it Lochee had a large amount of Catholic Irish immigration. I suppose it spawned George Galloway though...

This new multi-member ward contained 2 of Labour's safest seats on the council under FPTP - the other 2 seats were gained by the SNP at the 2003 election. To win with 49% is very surprising indeed.

Dundee was basically a Labour city right up to 2003, great progress to secure 49% of the vote. Now
