STOP THE HARASSMENT OF MUSLIMS AT GLASGOW AIRPORT!from Scotland Against Criminalising Communities - SACC (www.sacc.org.uk)
Tue 14 Oct - PROTEST - STOP THE HARASSMENT OF MUSLIMS AT GLASGOW AIRPORT!
2pm Strathclyde Police Headquarters, 173 Pitt Street, Glasgow G1
In recent weeks, there have been growing complaints from members of Glasgow/Scotland's muslim community (incl. Scottish-born Pakistanis) about alleged harassment by Special Branch POLICE OFFICERS at Glasgow Airport.
Muslim community members have been singled out for questioning for 'no apparent reason' other than being 'muslim' (or those befitting the current racist/stereotypical description).
At Glasgow airport, individuals have been questioned for hours at a time and asked questions which bear no relation to immigration issues. Individuals have also complained that they are then 'asked' to go to the Special Branch Headquarters for further questioning where they are then asked the same questions repeatedly for 1,2 hours or more. In several cases, individuals were then 'asked' to drop into a local Police Station for further questioning, or if they prefer, a café or restaurant!
Some of these (ridiculous) questions include:
ˇ Do you know where Osama Bin Laden is?
ˇ Did you meet Al-Qaeda in Pakistan?
ˇ Have you trained with the Taliban?
ˇ Do you pray? Which Mosque do you go to?
ˇ Are you a member of a terrorist group?
ˇ Are you their operator in Scotland?
JOIN THE PROTEST!!
Organised by Scottish Afghan Society
Supported by SACC
'We are fed up with the discriminatory policies of Strathclyde Police (Special Branch). We cannot bear the psychological torture anymore. The authorities treat us like terrorists, as well as putting pressure on ordinary muslims to become local informants and spies, but we are not going to be intimidated and pressured.' M. Asif, President, Scottish Afghan Society

Perhaps they don't know why they were 'singled out', yet the police in question do.
As for racial profiling - yes, of course it depends on stereotypes, that's entirely the point. However there's nothing racist about it.

So? Presumably they are being asked questions relating to security issues...

Some of these questions seem rather made up, and I would not believe them without further evidence. Meanwhile some are eminently sensible. Asking 'are you a terrorist?' is perhaps not the most advanced interrogation technique, but it is far from a stupid question at an airport.

Av, Strathclyde cops are capable of racism. I have had first hand of experience of them harassing me when I have travelled to Ireland especially before the Good Friday Agreement. Their only reason is bigotry because I have Irish in my family. I know what harassment Muslims will be experienceing

A friend of mine was going to spain recently and witnessed all of the passengers who looked asian being pulled aside into one line for police questioning at Glasgow Airport.

Not an event I managed to attend today, but the media (normally modest estimate) report on BBC Scotland website indicated a fairly impressive turn out

I disagree with the police for singling out muslims. If they want to know more about individual passengers, what their habits are and who they associate with then then the stupid thing to do would be to ask them. What could be achieved by that?
They would use much more subtle methods, like phone tapping etc.
Muslims who live here are citizens of this country. They come here for a better life, for more prosperity and more freedoms than they would have in their countries of origin (and who could blame them) which, if we're being honest, are by and large undemocratic, dangerous cesspits.

Jamesie, your ignorance knows no bounds! Muslims are people who belong to a faith, they dont 'come here', in Know muslims who came 'here' (ayrshire) from Aberdeen.
That you immediately associate muslims with immigration shows your highly biased view, again.
You really need to start reading so that you can distinguish between faith, nationality, denomination, race etc.

It's not necessarily a lack of reading that's the problem ... often it's more to do with what you're reading.
Slightly disturbing though that this is what (allegedly) passes for a teacher though ... of course it takes all sorts

When I got stopped once my bag was searched and they found a James Connolly book. Being Brit pigs they thought I had bought it at Sinn Fein office. They were wrong I had purchased the item at the Dublin Connolly book shop owned by the Communist Party of Ireland and it was really none of their stupid business.
I have remained cool despite harassment as you want to board your plane or from Ireland get home.

Many immigrants who come to this country come, obviously, from poorer countries where there are, on occasion, wars and civil strife.
They come here for a better life, a job, money, prosperity and freedom. You don't have that in most muslim countries so who can blame them for coming here?
Police discriminating against Irish catholics, (or 'Irish' Catholics). You have got to be joking! There are loads of catholics in Strathclyde's Finest, and why shouldn't there be?
Political correctness obscures the truth. It allows the hollowness of the political correct to continue their lives of self-deceit!

redjustice is wallowing in her victim status.
security services at airports choose to question a chap of middle eastern descent wearing islamic garb about being a threat before they question an 8 year old girl travelling to meet her parents in london.
red justice would have us believe that is racism.hahahahahahahahaha.
racial profiling exists and i'm happy it does.
i'm also glad that republicans are questioned also considering how some of them have behaved in recent weeks.
some roups are threats to security.get over it.
ask not of all muslims are terrorists but if all terrorists are muslims? (or dissident republicans.....)

i would have thought it was obvious. due to recent events where arrets were made of 11 students from pakistan who were apparently planning mass-murder.they were here on student visa's.i'm pretty sure people entering the uk in student visa's (particulary from pakistan) will be more closely scrutinised to help avoiding mass murder by jihadists.
on the whole i think thats good news.keep out undesirable as best we can and halp prevent mass murder as best we can.yes.pretty,pretty good news.
