Stornoway fight with Land Rover

Grey shade too far for councillor

Land Rover has angered a Western Isles councillor after promoting a new colour called Stornoway Grey.
Angus Nicolson claimed the colour will damage the town's image among tourists and leave people with the impression that it was drab and dull.

The councillor has called on the car manufacturing giant to rename it Silvery Stornoway.

However, Land Rover said it was one of its strongest colours and that it will help "keep" Stornoway on the map.

Mr Nicolson said: "This is deeply insulting and is offensive, inaccurate and inherently degrading.

"This will hit tourism as it subliminally implants adverse connotations in the minds of those who have never experienced the reality of these beautiful islands."

A spokesman for Land Rover said Stornoway had replaced a previous colour scheme, Bonatti Grey.

He said: "Far from damaging tourism to the island the use of Stornoway Grey will help keep it on the map.

"Grey is an extremely popular colour in our range."

Yeah, they said pretty much the same thing when Asda opened on the edge of Grangemouth last November. Extensive research was carried out and a report submitted to the Council saying it would benefit the town centre and put it on the map. Four months down the line and footfall in the town has HALVED and half the shops are in danger of closing. Guess who carried out the research and supplied the glowing report? Asda!

Now the local councillor (outgoing through retirement), Pat McCafferty (Independent), thinks it might be a good idea to close the road and divert all the traffic past Asda. The sooner he retires the better. Alistair McNeill of Benji & Meg fame is hoping to take McCafferty's position for NL. He's a nice guy but as much use as a fur coat in Ecuador. Neighbouring councillor Angus McDonald (SNP) (from Stornoway incidentally), is doing all he can to save the town but he might be farting against thunder.

Get a f***ing grip! The fact that a premium brand like Land Rover have decided to even mention stornoway at all is brilliant. This guy needs shot - please tell me he has nothing to do with the SNP!

Aye, it would have freaked some folk out if they had been painted orange in Northern Ireland these past 28 years or so. Laughing

Edinburgh has been known as Auld Reekie for countless years and Aberdeen as the Granite city but it did no harm to tourism in these places. What a stushie over a colour.....
