The Americans.

I notice a lot of Americans joining the forum, but not posting, hope they're not the C.I.A. Checking up on us to see where/who the subversives are?!! Laughing Shocked
Theresa

McTosh,

Rest easy, laddie! Ah've been here a wee bit, an if any hostility was intended ye'd ken by noo. Wink

As for the Americans who have joined the board but haven't posted, maybe they're just receiving inspiration to do something for Scotland, Wales, etc. After all, this is the best forum in town!

And I think subversiveness is in the eye of the beholder. If the public can't conduct a free-flow conversation about topics of importance, then where has democracy gone?
FALSYDE

Being a tecnological illiterate myslef, how the hell do you know whether soemone is of one nationality or another? Anyway the Scottish diaspora has a lot of memebrs in the USA as well as other countruies suich as the Canucks, Kiwis and the Aussies.

You may be assured of one thing if nothing else, every single posting on this site and every other of any similar range of discussions is or may be monitored by CIA, MI5, MI6, the German, Russian and several Islamic republic' intelligence services. Work on that as a default position and you won't go far wrong.

Incidentally the use of the word 'intelliegence' in connection with soem of those cited may be construed as an oxymoron. Think WMD e.g.

And for those of a sensitive persuasion, the recent Amercan 'person' who came out and said [shortly thereafter to be backtraced under instruction] that the US approach to Iraq was "stupid and arrogant" was on the money. What he failed to do was be specific, as in the president is stupid and Rumsfeld is arrogant. Their generals all agree. therefor with a consensus of that order in the military there must be some truth in it.

Falsyde, the boat is really rocking here in the States insofar as the horrible mess in Iraq that has spawned so many human tragedies. The American public is tired of being at war, and that includes many Republicans. I think as the pressure to withdraw continues to grow that the U.S. will set a pull-out date while doing their best to ensure that Iraq is not left in total anarchy. Shocked

As for intelligence agencies monitoring of my conversations, I may end up on someone's list merely for participating. But I have no guilt in terms of advocating violence of any kind. And I still maintain the importance of free speech.

Theresa,
As for advocating violence, I think I'm right in saying the U.S. is responsable for more death & destruction through misguided Imperialist adventures, than any other since the end of W.W.2. I dont think the rest of us who live on the planet, are predisposed to taking lectures from Washington on how to fight their latest war.
FALSYDE

Good evening Therasa,

The 'Agencies' will watch what they will and it is of no moment in any event, these are the same outfits whose grip on events was shown to be deficient on both sides of 'the pond'. What is deeply worrying however, and should be, is the probable repeat of the Vietnam outcome only this time with Iraq the west got rid of a secular despot who had long ago forfeited the right to breath the same air as the rest of humanity. However, unlike Vietnam which landed in the communist lap, en passant, but is now doing quite nicely thank you as a capitalist economy only they don't call it that but at least they are in the World Trade Organisation, [unlike mother Russia whose bad behaviour is hard wired in their neandertal heads].

We will now find that, and here is a prediction hardly needing great perceptive power, Iraq will implode into its three component parts, one secular = an INITIALLY a core Kurdistan which will drive the Turks, Iranians and Syrians bananas with concommitant expanded conflicts. This will be followed by two other new states, one Shia and the other Sunni with one acting as the proxy for Iran. They will then indulge in the co-operated control of oil non shipment via the Gulf, this will be a short term exposure of testosterone which will abruptly come to some sort of denument after the money runs out and overseas assests are frozen, especially those of the Iranians. In the meantime Scotland's oil revenues will rocket back up from the current c. US$ 60/barrell to c. US$ 90-100 beyond which as a tipping point it cannot go because at around this point the western economies then go into free fall and people like the Russians then revert to form and will try to achieve via the Cold War 11 by means of restricting heating supplies of gas and oil what they failed to do in Cold War 1.

Meanwhile back in Iran the huge population demographic of the young Iranians will see their aspirations going down the toilet fast and lynch, with luck, Amadinijad and over throw the mad Mullahs. Oil flows again but the west will have learned a useful lesson based on reliance for energy on disfunctional regimes, the Greens will then find that public opinion on security of western energy supplies will lead to a massive new build on Nuclear and the Professor, he of Gaia fame will be vindicated in his esposing of Nuclear as an imperative for avoiding global warming.

Possible, other issues, to muddy the waters, Isreal will almost certainly take out the mad Mullah's nuclear armamaments production facilities before they can implement their avowed plan to wipe Ireal off the map. Quite how they plan to do so without also causing collateral damage to the Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem is beyond the mind of this dozy Scot.

Another 'wrinkle' in the system [another one Iain?] is for those following the recent debate on sun spot activity and recent predictions on dramatic drop off of same to the levels, possible quite soon, tied in with the research on past peaks and troughs, will lead to global COOLING and we can all happily go back to our gas guzzling 4x4 and jet around the world with a clear conscience.

At this point I have to admit up front I lost the plot some several sentences ago so will now retire to a darkened room to recuperate and plot further international confusion before locking my crystal balls under the bed. Who is going to produce the first funny repost on that, but do try to remember this is a family show? Another better strategy might just be to continue working away for the SEP bearing in mind we have just some six months to go. Once we ALL have sorted out Scotland's future we can convene at a mutually agree location and boost the drinks industry's profits, mine's a double by the way.
