The Herald sacks all staff: made to reapplyThe Herald and Times group have sacked 250 employees and asked them to reapply for 210 jobs.
Quality will suffer drastically under a new editor-in-chief with a lot of bad feeling for the nature of the forced changes introduced.

Will we see fewer articles, fewer pages, less challenging journalism? More than likely.

I really fear for the Sunday Herald.
I think it is the best paper in terms of its quality and content and fear that this may be eroded in pursuit of profits.

Two posts so far, and it's actually Nationalists saying positive things about the Herald?
Nothing like culling your staff to gain a bit of popularity, it would seem.

Well, I'm a supporter of independence, but not a Nationalist, and it hasn't made the Herald popular with me. Although I had been in the habit of buying the Herald and the Sunday Herald quite regularly, I'm not going to give them my custom. If these papers suffer as a result of this, that may send a message to other employers that sacking the staff and saying they should re-apply for a smaller number of jobs can be bad for business.

The only paper I can read recently without shouting out angrily is the Telegraph...
