The Joys of Autumn ...........'spring' calves bounding about in the sunshine. It must be something in the grass here for some strange reason. The field at the rear of our garden has cows in it. I've lost count of the calves that have been born in the last few weeks. (around 6)

Maths, eh? Not your strong suit, I take it? Is that how you've gone through so many husbands??
Babygael
Carol lost count BA of the husbands, give that lass full marks for not giving up!!
We don't really get Autumn here as you are used to it there tho' plants and life in general do and indeed must go through their cycles of life.

Blackadder

In the Caribbean they do not have weather as such. They have extremes. As in extremely hot or extremely wet!!!

Aspen leaves. You don't have Aspen in the UK do you? They are so delicate and attached by such a thin stem, they flutter and twist in the slightest breeze, and this time of year they are the color of gold coins. Absolutely lovely!
Blackadder
Yes we do have Aspen, you great pillock!
Although Aspen occurs throughout Britain, it is most common in the north and west of Scotland, and is also known from Shetland and the Hebridean Islands. In the Highlands it will grow at elevations of up to 550 metres, and in the Glen Affric area it is most often found on rocky slopes or cliffs with a southerly aspect. However, because it can tolerate a wide range of soil types and climatic conditions, it is likely that its present distribution is due to the effects of deforestation, with these sites representing the only places where it has been able to survive out of the reach of grazing animals.

OHHH! I'm glad you do have then, I was under the impression they were a higher altitude, Western North America tree. We have them here at 4,000 feet but this elevation is about the lowest they grow around here.

Soggy golf courses, wet bunkers, winter greens, long dark nights, garden full of leaves, frosty mornings, driving towards a low sun on wet roads, bowling greens closed, football pitch a mire, fishing from slippery river banks...The joys of Autumn?...there are none.

Soggy golf courses, wet bunkers, winter greens, bowling greens closed, football pitch a mire, fishing from slippery river banks ... the joys of Autumn aplenty!!!

Don't forget the bloody non stop rain.
Blackadder

Okay ............................ and the bloody non-stop rain!
Which has stopped this morning ...............
carol
weather dry here and not so cold
as for the joys of autumn, walking to school with the wee one, taking a shortcut through a wooded area at the side of the burn and kicking the fallen autumn leaves with my feet

Blackadder
The Joys of Autumn .... staying in and warming your tootsies by an open log fire, with a hot cup of coffee, watching a decent movie on TV ... and the phones is off the hook!! Bliss!
carol
Well BA if you've a log fire I'll gladly cosy up beside you
mairead

Dry this morning here, but the sleet and rain is back this afternoon. Duh.

| Quote: | | Wow Carol! Is BA going to be NO:5?? |
Ha!!! Not in a million years! NEVER!!! So get your head fixed and stop giving it a treat, BG! I wouldn't let Carol snuggle up to me if she looked like Halle Berry!!! Not with her track record!
She's not even been married SIX MONTHS ... and she's eyeing up inedible mushroom patches already!!!
Babygael
UH OH! I'll bet carols cuh...cuh...cookin' up some Muh....muh....mush shroom soup as we speak!!

No 5 BG? erm I'm losing count. I just eat them for breakfast, spit them out and bury them under the rhubarb patch alongside family pets
Blackadder
Thank you for that, Carol. Superintendent Jim O'Taggart of the Serious Crime Squad will be happy for that info. Expect the JCB very, very soon!!!
carol
Fortunately the JCB won't fit through the gate
Blackadder
The gate won't matter!!!
carol

they're not ruining our prize garden I'll set the rabbits on them, or the budgie it bites
Blackadder
| Quote: | | I'll set the rabbits on them, or the budgie it bites |
Which rabbit is going to bite a budgie, Carol? People want to know!
kathyv
OH! You have one of those rabbits from the Holy Grail! I wondered where they got that!
There's a joke going around about the farmer who contacted the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) and reported that suspicious drugs activity had been going on in the field next to his house, someone had buried something in there the night before. The DEA came and dug up the entire field, couldn't find a thing. The farmer called his friends and shared his new plowing technique with them then went out and planted his corn in the nicely prepared, turned soil of his corn field.
You might just get some free garden labor carol.
Blackadder
| Quote: | | You might just get some free garden labor |
Not in this country, Kaffy. We don't have "LABOR".
Could you remember in future when you're chatting to us Brits, to put the "u" BACK into the words your countrymen removed for NO apparent reason, other than to DUMB spelling down for your home market!!!

Nibbles
Blackadder
Has Nibbles got a taste for human flesh, Carol? Been digging round the rhubarb patch maybe, eh??
carol
tends to be jumpers she prefers nah if they went near the rhubarb patch I think the other half would be tempted to dig them a hole for them!
Blackadder
| Quote: | | tends to be jumpers she prefers |
Why? Does she have something against pullovers??
mairead
An amazing autumnal sunrise here this morning. Sky was completely red blue and purple all over..
Blackadder
Oh ... just like your face in the morning .............. I'm told!
mairead
I never have a red face sonny, and not even you could give me one.
Blackadder
No ... I'll leave that to the likes of Coolio!!!
mairead
He's got even LESS chance. LOL
Blackadder
He just makes people turn the air blue!!!
mairead
Na, I wouldn't even allow him that much. I just laugh at stupidity.
Blackadder
Well ... I'm not calling him Coolio any more. It's too good for the likes of him. His new nickname is Devious!!! If he was a Roman legionary, it would be Devious Manipulus Bastardicus!!!
mairead
ERM, BA, in order to be devious one must have a modicum of intelligence, I think you need to find a more suitable name for him.
Blackadder
How about Dopius???
mairead
Now that sounds much better.
Blackadder
Actually none of them suit the old b****rd. I'll have to think it over!
mairead
Och, a basic Clown might do, after all he gives me a laugh.
Blackadder
He makes my brain ache and sends me to sleep!!!
mairead
Well it doesn't take much to make your brain ache, now does it.
Blackadder
Not the moment, no!
mairead
Must have been me getting in touch then, Sorry. XXX
Jimbo
So, on the joys of autumn... no cricket on telly.
Blackadder
On second thoughts, Jimboneheid .... YAY!! NO CRICKET ON TELLY!!!
mairead
yet again we agree, BA.
Blackadder
Bloody well stop agreeing with me, crone!!!
Otherwise they'll think we're in cahoots!!! And I have never cahooted with you in my life ... nor do I want to!!!
mairead
I just do it to make you feel as if you are always right.
Blackadder
I KNOW I'm, always right! I don't need to be told!
mairead
We are doing a good job on you then if you now KNOW that.
Blackadder
I know nothing of the sort! Stop taking credit for everything I do ... except when I get wrong (which isn't all that often) ... you can have the name of that!
