There's always someone to defend a shithole...

So, ivory towers or just an MSP going through the motions by defending her constituency?

It seems any criticism of a town results in some minor politician taking offence. I suppose they really ought to accept that someone has to come last in the race now and again.

coatbrig. a midden. i would not give it an award for being a midden.

Cumnock was nominated this year. Its just the sort of top award we are capable of winning being, in the past, top of league tables for heroin detahs, unwated pregnancies, unemployment.

On the other hand my friends here might want to place a vote for the Barony A Frame in a vote for funding local projects. the TV programme is on tonight I believe, and the number is 08702 436701.

To be fair, this kind of stuff doesn't actually do anything for the morale of people who have to live there.
sgmillerton

the people who live there do nothing for the morale of the people who live there.

I think its just very cheap, easy and not very useful to point out a town that you think is crap. I mean, this Prospect magazine is about architecture, so bringing the mentality of people of the town into it is a little sad.

Now that Prospect have selected Coatbridge, why don't they run a poll or competition for the best suggestions for architectual improvement or planning improvments and then share them with the council? It would make the award a little bit more useful and might engage more people with positive attitudes unlike you idiots above.

Because renovating these town centres is not economically viable and certainly not a priority for this Executive or the last.

Even perfectly pleasant town centres are suffering as a result of the move towards massive shopping complexes.

Personally I say abolish all restrictions and effective subsidy of public transport. Stop people moving about so much. Then you'll have your towns back, and hopefully slightly more regard for the communities people live amongst.

Well given your previous form, I can understand why.

Of course rennovating the town centre is a huge task and if that was ever a priority for any executive I would either be worried by their incompetence or delighted that everything else in the country is good enough. But at least have some sort of faith or optimism in the future of the Coatbridge economy.

I like these awards but have to admit they only discourage potential investment plus you can't really have a go at the MSP for defending her constituency. Like I said, its too easy to point out the areas that are underchieving but come on, ideas for improving them are more challenging and def more useful.
