Oh yes, because Salmond and McConnell aren't just as bad...

McConnell is just as bad, but in a different way. Salmond is not just as bad IMO.

There's still only a hair's width of difference between them on policy. Need I whack out that memorable old statistic: after seven years of devolution, only seven executive bills had been opposed by the SNP.
FMQs (admittedly not a reflection on Salmond) are little more than slanging matches trying to make out the other side as simply incompetent rather than to debate policies.
It's the nature of all this centrist political nonsense you get these days.

Yes, but that hair is so fundamental, that the SNP and Labour might as well be poles apart.

I've always presumed that I won't continue to vote for the SNP after the first term in an independent parliament. An SNP that have fairly conservative policies, that don't rock the boat suits me fine. But then I give more weight to independence than anything else that's up for debate in Scottish politics at the moment.
And that, Aventinian, is why things need to change. Myself, and another 20-30% of the population are disenfranchised. The SNP and the independence argument totally skew the political spectrum. Only after independence (or a significant vote against it in a referendum) do I think we could move on to a more mature political landscape.
