We are going out for Xmas dinner this year - first time ever.
Guess I will have to drive though, since my wife can't drive.
Just thought of the perfect Xmas gift

I'm honestly stumped this year.
Every year it gets harder and harder, because everyone I know has everything they need, and anything you buy for folk inevitably ends up getting put in the back of a cupboard somewhere, as if they wanted it in the first place they would've bought it for themselves.
All of my friends are mid-twenties with decent-salaried secure jobs, and all the oldies are getting to the stage where gifts really are pointless. Got my Dad a subscription to Setanta Sports which my mum is absolutely thrilled about as you can imagine, but for everyone else I'm stumped.
My mum is desperate to go to Venice, and I'm thinking about booking up for her and my dad to go for a few days, but she HATES birds and I think the pigeons at Piazza San Marco would drive her insane.

Your old man would probably be pissed off if Venice clashed with a good game on Setanta too!
Done all my shopping. Did it all by the beginning of December. Feel brilliant not having to worry about it at all from now on - got two credit card bills through the post this morning, where as last year I knew I'd have to pay them at the beginning of Janary before interest kicked in, this year they where all clear already. Result of this - all money I have left is too be spent in the various pubs of Oban over Christmas and Hogmonay!
My tactic is to give gift buying as little thought as possible and go with my initial thoughts. If you do too much thinking you end up going nowhere. The wife and I set a limit for each other this year too which was handy.

Well it was either that or I treated myself to 3 weeks backpacking in Morocco then another 2 in Egypt after that, all in February/March. Thankfully my standards for travel/accomodation aren't anywhere near as high as that of my mother, otherwise I wouldn't have done a fraction of the travelling I've done.
To be honest though, I've done so much over the past couple of years that it's just nice to be at home and in one place for a while, and I really can't be arsed.
No doubt I'll get the itch sometime late next year though...
