UFF to stand down - so they claimhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7089310.stm
UDA have announced that the UFF are to stand down and put their weapons beyond use but also refuse to decommission.
Certainly a good thing and another important step forward for Northern Irish Politics. Not far enough it terms of them refusing to decommission, but given how long it took for the PIRA to get where they are now (which is still not far enough) not really suprising.
Obvious that Margaret Richies actions in taking away funding for Community Development awareded to the UDA has had some part in this as far as I can see. She's had a lot of stick, not sure why though.
Could also have positive implications for the Loyalist/Unionist Communities. When I was visiting the Shankill it was pointed out that the Road was divided in two because of a turf warfare with the UDA/UFF on one side and the UVF on the other. However with this announcment today and the UVF announcing in June that they where it announced it was abandoning violence I honestly belive we could see a huge shift in these areas where the conflict has been clear.

Thanks for that insightful analysis, cymro. It would be more accurate to describe one end of the Shankill (the lower part) as being womble territory, while the other end is aligned with the blacknecks to a greater extent. I'm sure you will now have to use Google to find out what that actually means just like you did with "Stoops". But I don't doubt that having to do so won't stop you from trying to pass expert judgment on developments like this in future. Cue another line by line rebuttal feeding frenzy no doubt.
As for this actually meaning anything in practice using the same sort of dodge on weapons as SF/IRA will clearly make it more awkward for financial sanctions to only be applied on them.

2:34 am you respond to me. Nothing better to do?
I saw the story on the news site and figured it was relevent to post here. Is that ok with you?
I didn't need to Google thanks. I was there a few months ago and took photos. Saw where the divide existed - just near the Leisure Centre if I remeber rightly.
I'm interested in the issue and will post as I see fit. Notice how you've been unable to defend your pathetic stance at all and have now taken to trying to question my knoweldge in the field.
How old are you 13?
