Ullapool/Stornoway/Dingwall

Hi folks,

going on a wee jaunt around the highlands and northern parts of Scotland over the next few days and was wondering if anyone recommended a few nice places to go to or areas to see? heading to stornoway for 2days and hoping to hire a car and drive around Lewis and last night, Anyone recommend a good place for live bands? Celidh music or even just nice wee pubs and places to go?

cheers

I am actually going up to Dingwall this weekend as well Very Happy

On the Dingwall to Ullapool road there is Garve which is quite nice (although not much in it). Just outside Garve, is Rogie Falls which is nice to have a walk along, although I get a wee bit panicky walking along the suspension bridge.

Just about 5 miles outside Dingwall is Strathpeffer which is a little spa town.

Two miles outside Dingwall is the place where I go to and that is Maryburgh. When I lived there, my local was The Cottage and this is a small pub where everybody knows everybody else, log fire etc etc.

If you are looking for a pub in Dingwall, then I would go to the Mallard in the train station. This is probably the best one, although the High Street is littered with them.

Don't know where there is any Celidh music though.

The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool might be worth a look Wink

Cheers Hero and folks,

had a good time all over, Stornoway is a crackin' wee place, really enjoyed myself going all around Harris & Lewis and found the locals very friendly and welcoming indeed,

Ullapool for a day was nice enough but we didn't stay long enough to see the places, missed the celidh place but heard good things about it,

Ended up staying nearer Inverness and was pretty beat so never got achance to taste the pub atmosphere in dingers but a good trip overall, hope you had fun too Hero and
