Why the Irish rejected the Lisbon Trea(son)tyhttp://www.wiseupjournal.com/?p=173
This is a video which is worth watching right through its 1hr 22minutes. Its about the Irish 'NO' Vote and it completely exposes the lies and treason of our EU Prime ministers and our MEPs and advisors. Please distribute this widely and then let us all get together to DEMAND A REFERENDUM on the Lisbon Trea(son)ty.
Section 3 at about 14 minutes is a must about the EU Court of Justice and how our civil and legal rights will be abolished. There will be no Habeas Corpus and everything I warned about in my article on Corpus Juris will come to pass. The European movement MUST be opposed at all costs.

A fine point, and a good case in point to demonstrate that Europhobes base their arguments completely on fallacies and half-truths.
Realistically, the Lisbon Treaty would do nothing more than streamline the Union and actually provide more democratic and judicial accountability over its organs, as well as strengthen the subsidiarity principle.

There were many reasons for opposing the treaty and the one thing that united the various strands of the anti campaign was that they said no.
The onus is now on the EU to come up with another treaty to put to their members, any other process would be a sham under any idea of democracy.
It is a mistake to cal those who oppose it 'europhobes'.
For another couple of perspectives on part of the no campaign:-

The probable solution will be to use Croatia's accession treaty as a way to get around a referendum in an RoI context with some opt-outs to try to keep the voters happy:-

The reason for the referendum result may be that anti-EU feeling or critical attitudes towards Brussels have increased since the Irish voted on Nice at the start of the decade.
What the Irish likely realised is the potential power grab by the undemocratic EU political elite and probable loss of their sovereignty and voted accordingly.
The Irish people are not prepared to give over more power to an EU institution which they do not elect and which is not accountable to them. Three times in three years the people of three states have now said no to a militarised and unaccountable EU superstate.
Also Irish Socialist Party leader Joe Higgins said the result was a “huge rebuff to the political establishment” and showed there was clear concern over the issue of workers' rights.
“This can be a rallying call for workers throughout Europe who have been at the brunt of this neo-liberal juggernaut from the EU in terms of privatisation of services, attacking their pension rights, attacking the idea of a decent wage and a proper job,” he said.
The rejection of the Lisbon Treaty/EU Constitution means the Irish people have spoken and the question of EU integration should be looked at again.
The Irish layed down a clear marker to the Dublin and Brussels political establishment.
And I like you are denied a vote by the London rulers but I would never entertain the unacountable capitalist designs of the Brussels establishment.

...as per Holebender's suggestion, we split the post into the two very different discussions that were emerging. You can find the 'Yugoslavia/Serbia' thread in the 'Global Politics' section.
