Yer favourite guid auld ScotsSeein as how thurs a guid few folk oan here wi some guid Scots aboot them, how aboot a wee threed aboot the wurds & sayins in Scots thit youse aw like best fae whaur yer fae or whaur ye bide?
Here’s some ae mah ain:
“Ken” i..e. to know. Fur some reason folk fae Glasga hink this is juist an East Coast wurd but that’s rubbish. Heard hunners doon Ayrshire, Galloway & the Borders.
“Weesn’t” i.e. wee drop or wee bit as ma granny used tae say, “awa ben a get me a weesn’t milk fur ma tea”
Yin & Yince for one & once. Mair heard noo in Ayrshire than Glesga ah hink. Personally like it because I think it’s traceable back to the Brythonic speech of the Strathclyde Britons………….
Foostie. Fuid that’s went aff. As in “thae biscuits are aw foostie….”
Fooner, Foonert. Freezing cold. As in “wid it no juist fooner ye the day” or “ahm foonert so ahm ur”

What are you on, BG?
I haven't said anything about restricting anyone's right to speak. I posted a link to a forum where people can use Scots, where it's expected. A forum I have been a member of for longer than I've been a member here.

What's all this about BG? First Foot is a Scots language based forum that IF Convenor invited folk who are interested to have a look at. It was an invite, not a demand.

I'm cool SLG, First Foot is a good site,so thanks for the suggestion IF
As some posters were spikin aboot "speug" I thought I wuid post this,It may be familliar to some.
A wee hen sparra sat oan a barra, chirping awa as blythe as cuid be.
Alang came a boy wae a bow an a arra and he said"Ill get ye,ye wee Hen sparra"
And he hit a man that wis hurlin a barra,
The man wae the barra came over wae the arra and said"So ye tak me fer a wee hen sparra?"
The man hit the boy tho" he wisnae his farrar,
And the boy stood an glowered,he wis hurt tae the marra.
And a' this time the wee Hen sparra was chirpin awa' on the shaft o' the barra.
PS. I put Hen sparra instead of c**k sparra because as you can see, it blocks it out!!

Scots vernacular seems to vary region by region. Therefore, one cannot define one word solely because of its usage. It may be pronounced and spelt different elsewhere in the same country. Which is why a Lexicon of the Scots language (Lallans, Doric and/or Gaelic) is ultimately dissatisfying and you'd be as well writing pictograms.
Of course, English (the lingua franca of civilisation) was stabilised and codified in 1755 ... by a Scots lexicographer ... one Robbie Coltrane as I recall ... or Samuel Johnson. It is referred to now as ... the English dictionary.

Substituting original thought with hackneyed old lines scraped from the barrel of an 80's sitcom.

No need to wait. You can go out and buy my new book, "The Blackadder Mine of Information".
Lots of little "nuggets" there. Take your pick!
Available from all good booksellers, it's only £9.99 or £7.99 if you order online with two more books ... May I humbly suggest, "The Blackadder Family Tree" and "Edmund Blackadder's Workout Book" ... both edifying and healthy too!
