There are many ways to look at things. For instance if Ulster ended up in an all-ireland against its will. Ulster would find itself in the same situation as Dixie, namely.....being part of a country, of which they don't really want to be part of. I'm talking 1860s here.
Yet I dare say there are plenty of folk in Dixie who would support the concept of an all- Ireland arrangment. If you see what I mean
Only a thought.

As I said before I am a soldier...I have lived down south and have alot of Southern friends, hell the Army is predominately southern...Not only that but I am a right leaning fiscal conservative, hardly the type to be mentioned with Hillary Clinton...Your combining of all of us Yankees as having the same politics as the limosine liberals is more than absurd...What if I were to write an essay esposing the problem with the South is that they keep trying to fight a War that was 140 years ago and in doing so lumped the entire south as David Duke loving racists???I am sure that would get your attention wouldnt it...You should put your talents to looking towards the future...Discuss problems like keeping National identity in a global economy, perhaps that would be something that most of the posters on this board would talk about |
Sorry if I came across as rash but you set me off by calling me a "Redneck".
You claim to be a conservative but do you also support a small government?
That is the main point of my politics, I call for an end to the Federal/Imperial system and a return to the American politics of Jefferson and the freedoms that went with it. The government of the CSA represented local authority over Big Central Nanny in my opinion.

Soldier81;
Sandmountain's numerous postings about the American Civil War on a Scot's website has certainly been a puzzle to me as well. It is very difficult to say if he takes himself seriously, or whether it is all some sort of joke. As you correctly point out Americans look askance at anybody raising an issue with something that happened 140 years ago. What it has to do with modern day Scotland, or Scots in general simply eludes me. It does seem to me that there are numerous Americans of Scottish ancestry who are interested in conditions in Scotland and who would be interested in promoting Scotland's interests in America. These would be things like student exchange visitors, trade union agreements, professional licensing recognition, etc. But the Civil War???? |
