Anyone get any books from Santa that they are looking forward to reading?

I got The Traveller by John Twelve Hawks.  Looks quite good.

I have just finished reading the biggest load of tripe I ever have been given as a pressie by anyone.

"The Forgotten Monarchy" by that idiot, the self-styled, Michael of Albany. (If you've ever met him, you'll understand what I mean.)

To be sure, it's "...not a book to be put down lightly but to be hurled with some force into the corner of the room." (DOROTHY PARKER)

I've decided to give it to Baldrick ... and he'll probably eat it. And why not?

I'm now going to seek out the person who gave that codswallop and introduce him to a grain-thresher of my acquaintance!

Starting a new boo tonight ... Into A Dark Realm ... Raymond E Feist (I have all his books.)

Two weeks time Katharine Kerr's The Spirit Stone comes out ... the final book (we all hope) of the Deverry Cycle.

And I've forgiven my friend who bought me "The Forgotten Monarchy of Scotland". He really thought it was a fantasy book, since it was on that shelf in the bookshop.  Which, in fact, was the right place for it!  History, my well-formed behind! Laughing

Currently reading "The Well of Lost Plots" by Jasper Fforde. Gloriously surreal, but beautifully written.

Well, there's a telling point, eh?  You look down on people who read and enjoy the "Potter" books, Mairead?  Okay, they're not "War and Peace", but JK never set out to do that. All she wanted to do was entertain ... and she's succeeded rather well, I'd say. You can tell she was a Classics scholar, because they permeate the books from beginning to end. The books will hold an adult's attention as well as a child's ... and there's nothing wrong with that.

Or are you really the snob you tell me on the threads, you're not?

Questioning a person's intelligence because of what they read is a low blow and an unworthy one.

For all our differences ... I thought you were better than that!

LOL. I look down on no-one. Never have and never will. Just having a joke with you, who of all people, should have known that. Very Happy  Very Happy

As a matter of fact I loved the JRR Tolkien books and at one time had everone of them, including his unfinished tales. Stupidly I lent them out to various people and lost most of them. Two were first editions at that.

Sue them? If I could find the buggers I'd beat them up.
As books are my 'treasures' I no longer lend to anyone at all. once bitten and all that. I learn my lessons well. Twisted Evil
Oh, I'm not all that easy. Just play the puzzled peasant now and then. Very Happy

Maybe poor Baldrick has more going for him than you realise. I'd be careful, very very careful.

That's all right. Baldrick had his turnip lobotomised years ago.  He's on a par with your level of intellect now!

I think you should have yourself tested again. Try something harder than the old 11-plus though!
