|
|
Just been looking through my dvd collection and have put on 'In the Name of the Father' instead of doing work. Was wondering what peoples favourite films of all time are.
In no particular order (appart from the first one which is my favourite film of all time) here are mine.
1. In the Name of the Father - absolutly fantastic film. Daniel Day Lewis and Pete Poselthwaite at their very best.
2. Top Gun - no I'm not gay.
3. Con Air - the fact that the song Sweet Home Alabama is in it makes it even better.
4. The Wind that Shakes the Barley - like my first film a very powerful film, heartbreaking in parts.
5. Patriot Games
6. The Rocky Films - ok they aren't 1 film, but they don't deserve to be split up either.
7. The Superman Films - as with the Rocky Films they are a good collective including the latest installment, a great tribute to Christopher Reeve.
8. Gone in 60 Seconds - for some reason I love the part Vinny Jones plays in it.
9. Bad Boys 1 and 2
10. The Die Hard Films

Dr. Strangelove, Citizen Kane, Once Upon A Time In America, Raging Bull, erm mostly American films apparently- Stanley Kubrick had a certain style I could understand. Sergio Leone and Fellini are interesting 8 1/2 and la Dolce Vita.
I have a wide range of films I like but a good comedy is worth ten blockbusters that are usually too formulaic. _________________ Scotland deserves a First rate Parliament for a First rate People

Jeezo! There are certainly some real stereotypical males here!
I have seen In The Name Of The Father. Great film. Daniel Day Lewis is a brilliant actor.
My fave film of all time is Saturday Night Fever. (Make of that what you will!)
I also liked Sixth Sense but it was completely spoiled for me coz someone told me the ending!
The Godfather films were good. Good music.
Muriel's Wedding.
Ben Hur.
Midnight Express.
Groundhog Day. A film I can watch over and over again. No pun intended!
Green Card. Ooh, Gerard Depardieu! What is it about that man?
Jean De Florette.
In The Heat Of The Night.
Mildred Pierce.
The Fistful Of Dollars ones.
The Dirty Harry ones.
Memento.
All About Eve...
.....well, if you don't tell me when to stop. |

If ever you wanted evidence of American cultural domination - here it is. I could count the films from elsewhere on this list on one hand. I'll try and redress the balance.
My favourite Scottish film? That's another thread.
My favourite English film? Withnail and I
My favourite Australian film? Mad Max I (kind of)
My favourite Japanese film? Yojimbo
My favourite French film? Hard to say, maybe Amelie
My favourite Russian film? Ivan the Terrible part II
German? Goodbye Lenin
New Zealand? Once were Warriors
Spanish? Intacto
Italian? Most of the spag westerns
I also loved Angels of the Universe, but because it's come from Iceland, you can't get the fecking thing anywhere. If it was American everyone would have heard of it.
There was also a great Greek film I saw, but I can't remember the name of it. |

I should add, A League of Their Own for the best line ever uttered by Tom Hanks,
