Why do you call it EUFA as opposed to UEFA? Not having a go here, just confused.
I agree the pressure from UEFA (and rightly so have made it a story)
I can imagine a person from UEFA/EUFA with no idea of the deep daft intense rivalry of the Old Firm being bemused about why someone would be asking about Celtic fans when they are rightly investigating the behaviour of the Rangers support. That wouldn't be a suprise really. It's bemusing enough for a football fan who actually follows Scottish football and likes watching the Old Firm teams let alone a person who doubtlessly monitor football matches across Europe day in day out (what a great job!).
Does explain though why the possible secterian behaviour of the Old Firm gets more attention than some plebs from Hibs singing that Boruc is a refugee!

I will never understand why the irish national anthem is more news worthy than racism. _________________ "our revenge will be the laughter of our children" bobby sands MP

I didn't say it should be, all I'm saying is that given the current attention given in Scotland towards ridding Secterianism from Scottish football, any possible links, which includes proclemation of Irishness by Celtic fans (rightly or wrongly) in the eyes of the press. While racism, or in the very least xenophobia isn't currently deemed as news worthy. Probably because the campaign regarding Secterianism is a newer thing, while Anti Racism campaigns have been around for years.
I'd probably also say that Boruc is a Refugee isn't racist. Certainly uncalled for, and xenophobic but can't see how it's racist.
Can you please explain why you call UEFA EUFA? |

you should maybe get out in the real world and see how the term refugee is applied to people in everyday life. you might see then how that term can be used in a derogatory racist manner.
as for eufa its just a spelling mistake. _________________ "our revenge will be the laughter of our children" bobby sands MP

I certainly am in the real world, my previous emplyment included working for a Race Equality Council, I therefore had to deal with issues of racism day in day out. I am aware of a huge unawareness of what a Refugee is - in the same way people don't know what the difference between an Asylum Seeker, Refugee, Economic Migrant and Illegal Immigrant is. Many people actually believe you can be all of these!
Anyway, Refugee being a racist term - it clearly can be, however of all the raicst things a croud of people in a match can shout at someone, "Refugee", is very odd - even for racists!
And thanks for the explanation with EUFA just got confused. |

I have heard the term refugee used many, many times in a racist manner. _________________ "our revenge will be the laughter of our children" bobby sands MP

Come on Parkhead. This was a silly wee chant that was aimed at Rudi Scatchel at the time when Hearts were bringing in loads of players from Eastern Europe. He was the target cause he was a decent player. Boruc just ends up in the same song cause he pissed off the fans and some kids aren't able to think up a new song for him. It's nothing for anyone from Hibs to be proud of, but I'm sure it's not making any political statement regarding refugees in Scotland or making any statement positive or negative regarding his race/nationality/ethnicity.
And you definitely won't get me or the vast majority of Hibs fans accusing you of anything for singing the Irish national anthem. |
