smurfin flower Hey Scotsgirl! I should'nt worry about being an Ameireaganach in scotland. Is'nt MacDonna an American Question I was born in Scotland but spent most of my life overseas. It does't take away who I am, if anything it enhances it!! Absence makes the heart grow fonder an' all that Exclamation And don't forget Donald Trump is going to be buying up a large piece of Scotland. smurf smurfin

I too agree that there are so many "Anglicized" scots around . I am a Gaelic Language student (beginner) and am into doing my small part in hopefull preventing it's slide into oblivilon. I was recently on a chat site for "scots" seeking fellow Gaelic learners etc. Well lets put it this way, I'm still licking my wounds Exclamation I have NEVER met such determindly Anti-Gaelic persons before. I am still wondering if they were sasannach

For me Scottish independance means freeing heart and mind from England and fully embracing our OWN culture and language.Even if the latter is used only at the community level and also on an official level. If the sasannach can't understand a gaelic memo (i.e T.Blair) then tough tutties, get learning honey!!! Oops! no smoking!!!

Though I do agree that for some, it would not be possable to study the language. But at least be aware and supportive in maintaining all aspects of scots culture.Because true independance is not just an act of Parliament (or Whatever you call it!!) it's a state of mind and a renewal of Scots pride in THEIR OWN LIFESTYLE, 100% Albannach.

I am NOT anti-english but I am PRO_SCOTS.I would love to see National pride restored after "hurricane Sasainn" a few hundred years ago, folk had the stuffin knocked out of them.Time to put it back and more besides ExclamationB.G's smurfin gottit of her chest!!

No one from outside Scotland is ever really welcomed as one of the Scots, one of "them". I know I haven't... Well, that could be because I am me... Confused But my father hasnae either. He has been living there for over 25 years now Shocked, being a Scottish nationalist and all. But I hope it will be different for you. Laughing

Nina, that's not fair.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that. Listen to "Scotland's Story" by the Proclaimers. That song sums up my feelings on the subject.
I have relatives living here who were born in the Ukraine, Finland and England, and they consider themselves Scottish. Nobody argues with them.If you go to watch a Scotland football match, you might realise that the Scotland fans are quite often Germans, French, Dutch Poles etc with no Scottish connection at all apart from loving Scotland. And they are welcomed with open arms. So Nina, my arms are open to you Wink

Have you ever seen Save Gaelic? Their forum was taken down by the administrator for some strange reason last I checked, but the main site is still up.

Hey leathlaobhair, I have seen the web site "save Gaelic" and was wondering where the forum went to! I never partook of it though.
I am wondering where all of these negative vibes are comming from? What is so wrong about a healthy group of people wanting to maintain their cultural identity. To bring it back to a safe place?

Good grief! So much of Scotlands past is written up in Gaelic.Since Pict was never a written language. Oh well, strive on!!
