That 'Lucky Tony' will decide to stand down and let Gordo take over just a couple of weeks before the May 2007 SP elections?

It would be a huge blow to all the other parties, but mostly to the SNP. Watch this space - A Brown Honeymoon period would put the Labour vote back up to 37%+ again.

I'm sure wee jack has already persuaded Gordon that this is the best thing to do unless they want to lose 20-odd Holyrood seats.

Wasn't it you who recently discounted this from happening as Tony Blair would have slightly more important things than the Scottish parliamentary elections on his mind?

What are the chances? Well, the odds are on him stepping down either in 2006 or 2007 according to the bookies. So it's not inconceivable (or particularly unlikely) he'll be gone by then anyway.

Of course that'll obviously be a neo-Unionist plot to confuse the good people of Scotland...

I'm torn about what I think Tony Blair will do.

I think HE wants to stay as long as possible - i.e. into mid-2008, but I doubt Brown and the Brownites want to give him that long.

The emergence of the opinion polls yeaterday and the day before show Blair's personal approval rating way down which is certainly not good for him. The only thing keeping him in place just now is that GB polled a few % lower than him!

Then of course there is the paranoid side of me which thinks it's all a ploy and Blair will step down mid-April to give Gordo and the SLP a boost for the 2007 elections - but to be honest I don't think Tony really cares about Holyrood.

We shall find out in due course.

What is a 'neo-unionist' by the way?

Would that be a unionist who, despite all the evidence to the contrary, blindly and stubbornly believes that it is best for Scotland to stay in the Union?

Wink

Aye,right enough. Neo-unionism is I believe a doctrine that receives staunch approval when debated in the hallowed chambers of the Speculative Society in wee toon,Edinburgh. Laughing
