Scottish tennis "star" Andy Murray, has said that he will wear a Paraguay shirt on June 10th. He's also said that he will support all of England's opponents in the World Cup.

This has got to be a big blunder when you consider that most of Murray's fans at Wimbledon this year will be English (he represents Britain). What would happen if they turn against him by saying "Okay. If you support England's opponents in the World Cup, then why should be bother supporting you at Wimbledon?"

I'm beginning to weary at the outbursts of Andrew Murray, the young Scottish tennis player whose conceit is not regrettably matched by his talent.

His latest idea to prove his Scottishness (presumably mean and morose) is by announcing he will wear a Paraguayan shirt when England play against them in the World Cup.

I quite understand Scots not liking the English, even dim ones like Mr Murray.

It must be painful to receive handouts to the tune of £30bn this year - money generated by the clever English.

It must be painful for more and more Scots to leave behind the land of call centres and golf courses and head to London to find work - once again supplied by the clever English.

The latest figures from the 2001 Census showed there were 800,000 Scots living in England, and since the South East has continued to explode while Scotland - as The Economist points out this week - continues to decline, those numbers will have risen sharply from that.

It must be painful to recognise that these days all Scotland can export is national politicians (Blair, Brown, Reid) whose major skill set is telling lies.

So next time, Mr Murray, you are down south (possibly Wimbledon, although your first-round exit from the French Open won't have helped your ambition) perhaps you can try and work out how many Scots are in the stadium and, more importantly, who paid for their seats.

And another thing, why do we carry the Scottish football results? Discuss.

Whether it's a blunder that leads to less of a support by English tennis fans at Wimbledon we'll find out later. You have to respect his honesty though. It would have been very easy for him to try and pander to the English fans.

Hai Blackleaf,I admire your persistance,I really do.If I were English and read all of these anti-English sentiments,I would be furious. I'M as guilty as heck too I know. And it must get your ire that young Andy Murray is strongly supported by the English in every way and then make those comments.Humnmmmnmm.

Only a few folk on this forum realise that after I lost my scotish parents, I was raised by others and many of them are very" Tay N' crumpits old chap "!Types i.e English But I have natural proclivities toward my "ain.I just wanted you to know that and hopefully you'll realise that my rantings are purely in the spirit ot "The Leg Pull" (!Deservedly, yes ) but still tongue in cheek!

And now pretty much the biggest selling paper in Scotland. I wonder what their half a million odd Scots readers would make of the above.

well apperently the story above was in the Daily Record as the sun had not put the rant in the Scottish version, makes you wonder how many of these rants against Scotland go un-noticed by us?

Aye, but I don't think the Record would have put quite the same spin on the storty as the English edition of the Sun. I suppose it must have been on their website for Blackleaf to get the article though.
