Pasted here for Rinty:
I cant see the relevance of this to "Our Scotland". Genuine national liberation movements will have something in common with the views of people on this forum in my opinion. But an armed group supported by expats who wish to attack their own country (not under foreign control) to impose free market capitalism surely cannot be considered to anything to do with independence or national liberation.
The bit that was most revealing in your Wikipedia link was, in my opinion
Quote:
In 1999, Vietnamese police arrested 38 members and seized 37 kilograms of explosives in connection with a plot to bomb statues of Ho Chi Minh to disrupt national Vietnam festivals, the individuals were suspected members of the Government of Free Vietnam.
In August 2000, the Government of Free Vietnam was alleged to be involved in arson at the Vietnamese Embassy compound in London, England.
In April 2001, the Government of Free Vietnam was alleged to have caused a bomb to explode at the Vietnamese embassy in Phnom Penh, injuring a guard.
In September 2001, Philippine police charged three suspected members { members of ?} for allegedly plotting to bomb the Vietnamese embassy in Manila, they suspected that the Government of Free Vietnam was involved.
In October 2001, The Government of Free Vietnam gained greater attention when a member, Vo Duc Van, was arrested at the John Wayne Airport for the attempted bombing of the Vietnamese embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
This arrest led to an outcry by the Communist Vietnamese government to pressure the United States to shutdown the Government of Free Vietnam and led to FBI investigations into Nguyen Huu Chanh and the organization, and demonstrations in support of Vo Duc Van from Vietnamese American communities.
In September 2001, Philippine police charged three suspected members for allegedly plotting to bomb Vietnamese embassy in Manila.
The Government of Free Vietnam violates the U.S. Neutrality Act; but, like its counterpart, the Cambodian Freedom Fighters, the U.S. government has not taken a strong stance against them, except by arresting Vo Duc Van. _________________ William Potter

Hi Rinty.
I agree that it probably doesn't fit in with the beliefs of most who read this forum. Nor is it in the traditional sense a 'nationalist movement'. It probably does merit being in this section as it is 'Other Politics'.
Do you therefore think we should have two separate forums - one for Other Nationalist Movements and one for All Other Politics?
I suppose it kind of begs the question whether we need a UK or Worldwide Politics forum - but I quite like the way so many different types of threads pop up in here and keeps this forum very interesting.
What are people's thoughts on this? _________________ "Every single person on this planet is unique. Just like everyone else..." - Random Guy in Edinburgh Pub
