Hi Antoni,
Welcome to the forums. I hope you can have a positive contribution here. My ex-girlfriend was born and raised in Calgiari, she moved to Scotland at 16 years old so I'm very familiar with Sardinia.
I was not aware that there was some sort of Independence movement in Sardinia, but am happy to know that some seek self-determination.

Welcome, Antoni!
You'll enjoy this forum. We get a bit rowdy at times, but the conversation is stimulating. And there's no lack of personality in the messages!
I don't know much about Sardinia, but I did have the opportunity to travel to Rome and Assisi in 2001. What an unforgetable trip! And the food -- well, it took me months before I could choke down American cuisine again. |

| Fàilte Antoni. I'm going to Sardinia for the first time in October. Not a place you hear much about in Scotland. I wasn't aware of an independence movement in Sardinia (unlike Corsica). Are there political parties that support Sardinian independence? |

Hi Babygael, nice to know you.
Independence in mind first. Is under italian rules but Geographically, Historically and Culturally Sardinia it is not Italy.
Spain ruled for 450 years ..... but didn't became spanish.
There are many remainings in the sardinian language mainly from Catalan.

Fortza Zola and Frankie (Dettori) as well.
I was born and raised in a small village nearby Cagliari.
Sardinian people have always found hard to accept others nationality. We feel Sardinian to the bone first. Bad social condition (mainly in the years gone), italian cultural pressure (school, TV, song, Media in general) have a sort of sleeping pill effect in many people.
At the present there are 3 parties with strong sardinian identity.
Partito Sardo d’Azione (left wing), established in 1920-25
Sardigna Natzione (left wing), quite young 1985
iRS - Indipendentzia Repubrica de Sardigna established 3 years ago with no political position
(left / right).
But consider that all parties (italian) have to put the adjective ”label” *Sardinian* to give the voters the sensation of voting a friendly party.

Hi Theresa, (Like my sister)
You write from USA I suppose ....
Neverland island ..... I know .... most italian do not know much either ..... so ..... do not be worried about that.
The sardinian cuisine is tipical and quite different from the italian one. (not better ..... different).
I’ll give you some recipes ..... my brother is cook.

Fàilte sound Irish ..... or maybe it’s the same in Scottish Gaelic.
Are you going on holiday? October is still warm with good whether for sun and sea bathing.
Sardinia have always fought for freedom but always in the verge of history.

Hi there! Welcome, a bit late I know but here it is!
I am from the States. Where in Italy do you live? I went to Italy about 9 years ago, it's lovely! Very diverse and the people I met were very nice. _________________ I don't have hobbies; hobbies cost money. Interests are quite free.

In order of improving the knowledge of sardinian history and culture, I'm going to start a tread in the section "Global Politics" where I'll post links, historic facts, events, news, pictures, sounds, fragrances of Sardinia in the heart of western Mediterranean sea.
Above all, I want to point out that I'm very keen on all that sounds scottish. I visited Scotland several times in the past, Edinburgh, Inverness, Thurso, Oban, Glassgow ...... My friend Jane, that I knew rigth in Sardinia, ......

My regards to Turin and Milano,"Antoni". I have had in the past some happy memories of those places. Do they still have a hole in the ground and two little raised platforms for your feet in some places for a toilet?

They have for sure. Mainly in Public places with many people "coming and going". Bars, Rail/bus Stations, Hospitals (not for patient ) ...... for public hygienic and health reasons I suppose ..... Where constant and good cleaning cannot be provided ....

Did you get to go to any of the Olympic events Antoni? I, unfortunately, haven't been to Turrin, we went from Austria into Italy and Cortina was the fisrt big place we went through then on to Venice and points south... Maybe someday!
I did watch the Games and saw the scenery, it looks very pretty there.
