A group of walkers have been stuck overnight on Beinn MacDhuibh. Rescue services are attempting to reach them, but to little avail at the moment. After all the talk we've had this week about the weather closing in, it's surely gross negligence to walk in an area like this. They are putting many more than just themselves at risk. Is it time that people in this situation were charged in cases like this?

This really annoys me when this happens.

People go walking at all times of the year on remote mountains then in the winter when they get stuck are always surprised just how quickly the weather 'moves in' and there is always very little they can do about it.

I wouldn't go as far as charging people - but it might be a good idea for some sort of campaign so people only go walking through the months of april-october.

They could implement some sort of flag system like they have on beaches - so that people know at different times of the year where it is safe to go walking and where it is not.

They could make it illegal to go up certain mountains etc. during certain times of the year unless you are a forester/ranger/landowner - but this wouldn't deter many people I'm afraid.

They should be made to pay for the cost of their rescue, and a hefty supplementary fee to help pay for the cost of rescuing people who have accidents through no fault of their own.
