Nationalist MSP plans to 'quit'
A Scottish Nationalist MSP is planning to quit Holyrood, after accusing his colleagues of sidelining independence.
Bruce McFee said he was standing down at the next election in 2007 because the party was failing to push its central policy with the electorate.
The West of Scotland representative said that the party was focusing on winning power in the Scottish Parliament instead.
A Nationalist spokesman said support for the party was growing.

I think so. As I see it though, there are a large number within the SNP who think that this is a distraction. McFee would fall into this category. They think that the SNP are making too many concessions, toning down the independence rhetoric in order to become electable. They think that the SNP could get into power without winning the independence debate and therefore lead us into a failed referendum. The really paranoid in the party see this as the actual goal for some of our parliamentarians, who have sold out to the British state, and would be happy to see us remain part of the UK so long as they are the ones who get driven about in the 'ministerial mondeo's'. |

May the Gods forbid, SLG, there is not one rank and file SNP member who would accept this, we are independence to the core, how we acheive it is imaterial. If any paid representative put forward an acceptance of the union they should be lynched. |

| Absolutely. I think this just arises from a sense of frustration at the perceived lack of progress recently. A lot of people thought that after getting the Scottish parliament that the SNP would go from strength to strength till independence. It's not happened... yet. |
