Scotland faces losing around £500m in European funding under the budget deal being brokered by Tony Blair, says the The Herald .
It also reports on a 50% rise in obesity-linked deaths over the last 10 years.
More than 2,500 people were injured in hospitals in Tayside last year as a result of medical blunders, writes the Press and Journal.
The Scotsman says it has revealed a £1.8m "golden-goodbye" which a group of senior Scottish Executive civil servants will share when they retire.
The Scottish Sun describes the story of a woman who was killed when she went back into a her blazing home to rescue her pet dog.
Scotland will follow England's lead in raising the minimum age for buying cigarettes to 18, writes the Daily Record.

| I never understand why we see so many stats quoted comparing Scotland to either the UK or the other UK 'regions'. Who cares whether we are better off than the NE England, or work longer hours than the UK average. It really tells us nothing until we can put it into a wider context. There is also often very little breakdown into the Scottish regions. |
