In order to promote the forums could you put a link and short description of the site in your signature on any other forums you frequent? Maybe a plug on some sites that allow it. Basically any sort of promotion if you will - as long as it's not spamming!
Do any of you guys have friends/family that might be interested in the site? Why not email them and see whether they are interested?
