Private Eye got it from them... Not the other way. Although part of Dave's "condition" is to always know best.

This is ridiculous. You accuse ME of always wanting to argue, but in actual fact it is YOU who is seeking to argue even about such a trivial matter as who first came up with calling the queen "Brenda" !

It's not just me that says it came from Private Eye, Holebender says so, Wikipedia says so, loads of other folk say so as well. And yet YOU are claiming that "the intelligence services" have been referring to queenie as "Brenda" for even longer than the past 38 years? Even if you are actually a MEMBER of "the intelligence services" yourself, and even if you have been an agent of the British government for more than 38 years, "because I say so" still isn't good enough. You would have to produce some evidence. The evidence for Private Eye being the source is a matter of public record. There are libraries which have copies of Private Eye going back to when the journal was started. Private Eye would themselves happily sell you a copy of the very first issue in which they used this expression, for a small fee.

Dave's "condition" is to always seek the truth, and to seek to show that it is the truth, whether about big things or little things. YOUR condition is that, when you feel like you are losing an argument, even about such a trivial matter as this, you always have to try to make it personal.
