Hi all, I've finally decided to sign up after reading and lurking for months now. I was originally told about this site by azzuri on another forum.
There's lots of interesting discussion here and I've learned a fair bit about the wider independence 'movement'.
For the record, I'm a lifelong believer in independence and have voted SNP in every election I've been eligible to vote in, including the famous recent Scottish Parliament elections. I remember the "Free by '93" campaign but was not old enough to vote then, so there's a clue about my age.
I'm from Glasgow and despair of the west of Scotland obsession with Labour and hope that it is finally turning.
I believe in independence for many reasons. The union was never an equal partnership and I feel the 'concessions' over the law, church and education only demonstrate that this was well recognised at the time.
I am no hater of the English (I was born there of Scottish parents and have respect for the English people), but a union of nations with such an imbalance in population was never going to work. Perhaps a proper federal system with state parliaments would have worked better but the union was always seen as a takeover in London.
From a modern perspective it's clear that it has run its course. I was genuinely surprised that Labour actually delivered a Scottish Parliament (only 100 years late ). I see this as a stepping stone to independence and hope that extra powers such as tax collection and expenditure decision making should mean that the change to full independence is just a formality.

That's a rather long intor babykitten, but it's good to see you've thought about this in such detail.
