Hi folks,

I'm wanting to learn Gaelic and have had a keen interest for a while, my only trouble is I might be away from Scotland for a wee while in the next 5months but I was considering buying a teach yourself gaelic book by Boyd Robertson, or does anyone have a good choice of book to choose? I know some phrases e.g Ciamar a tha sibh-thu? is mise kevin, de an t-ainm a tha ort etc all pretty basic stuff and basically still learning via bbc on how to pronounce the words,

any ideas of a good distance learning package or a good book or so to learn? I read somewhere a while back about a college doing distance learning courses but I cannot remember which one,

Have a look at http://www.learn-gaelic.info/ click on 'clubs and classes' and then search by 'delivery' and you can select all distance learning courses. There are quite a few. I've never done one, although I did hear some bad feedback from soneone who had done the course through Lews Castle. That was a few years ago though.

It's "An Cùrsa Inntrigidh", The distance learning course for beginners at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig the Gaelic college in Skye. Good luck whatever you decide anyway.

Cheers folks,

I can speak a bit of Icelandic although they are complete different lanaguages and am still keen on learning gaelic and the distance learning course with the college in Skye seems perfect for me - does anyone know if it's running? or starting a new one in January or so?

No worries at all agent,

My girlfriend is Icelandic, did a course and can speak pretty decent although proun'c is quite difficult sometimes.

You should head up to land of fire and ice! and you now know someone who has connections, lives there Smile

thanks for that, i contacted the college and they are so helpful and friendly, going to register for febs classes.

Ive got a wee phrase book with the basic and a wee grammar book too so just learning away at the moment via that but hopefully set m up well for the course in Feb.

Are you a gaelic learner yourself buddy/?
