Shindig in the Square

St Andrew’s Day
Friday 30 November 2007
4pm – 10pm
FREE

There’s no better place to celebrate St Andrew’s Day than George Square! Whether you’re a fan of the Dashing White Sergeant or Strip the Willow, join in the fun and swing your sporran at our Shindig in the Square! George Square will be transformed into a sea of Saltires as Glasgow celebrates the patron Saint of Scotland with a customary ceilidh. Come along anytime between 4 – 10pm and enjoy your favourite ceilidh dances.

You can also have a twirl on the ice rink and skate along to the best of Scottish music – old and new!

The crowd will be treated to a packed line up of artists guaranteeing the opportunity to twirl their partners to the very best Scottish ceilidh music.

Performers taking to the stage include:
The Vatersay Boys, a five piece ceilidh band from Barra
Four Good Men, who recently completed their American tour
Bahookie, a Ceilidh band comprising graduates of the prestigious RSAMD
The Johnstone Pipe Band
Danceihayami, the first cross-cultural professional company of its kind in Scotland performing a variety of style from Indian Dance to Ceilidh music
The Picts playing a unique brand of Celtic Rock.

Big Rory & Ochie and Mischief La Bas will provide fun-filled street theatre entertainment.

Shindig in the Square promotes the Scottish Government’s OneScotland message of greater respect for individuals and greater social coherence and multiculturalism within Scotland.

Sounds lovely, but:

"Shindig in the Square promotes the Scottish Government’s OneScotland message of greater respect for individuals and greater social coherence and multiculturalism within Scotland."

Does that even mean anything?

Incidentally, I find all this "One Scotland" stuff faintly disturbing.
