A number of we former English Democrats are setting up a new political party that we hope will become the foremost English independence party.
There is not an ounce of anti-Scotland prejudice in our members (although do us a favour please - and have your Mr Brown back) and we see no reason why when we are independent of each other, the English and the Scots should not be the best of pals.
Our new party should be approved by the Electoral Commission next week and we are starting from nothing - no cash, no media influence - but we will have some very sincere activists who love England.
Do any forum members have any helpful advice on how best to build up a new political party?
Thanks - and Regards
Andrew Constantine

We need our party to be registered before we can really call our supporters "members", but we start off with about 10 known to us. And considering that the population of England is over 50 million shows that we have a huge potential membership to go for!
But we will be standing in all future English elections and our founder members are very committed. Happy to give progress reports to the forum - but even happier to receive constructive thoughts on how to make quick progress! We clearly have much hard work to do.

Considering how long the Electoral Commission has taken to investigate Wendy Alexander's illegal donation(s), good luck getting registered with them in time for the next General Election!
Have you contacted other pro-independence political parties (SNP, Plaid Cymru) for advice about constituting and organising your party? The SNP and PC cooperate at Westminster so (provided your constitution is acceptable) they should be willing to cooperate with your party too.
Keep clear of large donations from non-members, they're not worth it. _________________ "My instinct is to agree with your opinion of his verse, but I've never so much as glanced at it." - agentmancuso |

Andrew, what are the main differences between your party and the EDs? Is it only that you're going for full independence? _________________ Smile at us, pay us, pass us; but do not quite forget,

As an Anglo-Scot resident in England. You'd get my support for sure.
Good Luck, Andrew. |

Hi Pip
Yup, the EDs are still formally a Unionist party, and their main policies are an English Parliament and fairer treatment for the English.
Some EDs are giving we leavers a bit of stick for setting up an outright pro-Independence party. I expected some friction between the two parties and it should settle down.
Sometimes we will be standing in the same seat and will be splitting the English nationalist and "protest" vote. As we are only going to be formally registered this week by the EC and start off with about 10 members, we expect we will be the underdogs for some time.
But I think many English are fed up with many issues and are happy with the idea of "just" England and a less ambitious but pro-English government.
There is also a firm belief with some of us that Scottish Labour are quite happy to run England into the ground. I can explain more if required.
