Keen cyclist David Cameron has apologised after apparently breaking a series of traffic laws.

The Tory leader was photographed by the Daily Mirror as he cycled to Westminster.

During the journey he was spotted riding the wrong way up a one-way street, going the wrong way round a "Keep left" bollard, crossing the white line at a red traffic light, and riding across a toucan crossing for cyclists and pedestrians while the signal was red.

According to the paper, the incursions all occurred within the space of a 30-minute bike ride from his home in Notting Hill, west London, to the House of Commons.

Mr Cameron, who has made much of his enthusiasm for cycling to underscore his "green" credentials, has apologised.

In a statement, he said: "I know it is important to obey traffic laws - but I have obviously made mistakes on this occasion and I am sorry."

Kevin Clinton, head of road safety for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), criticised Mr Cameron for his "disappointing" behaviour.

He said: "It is essential that all road users, including cyclists, obey traffic laws. The laws are there for everybody's safety and, as always, it is disappointing when someone in the public eye sets a bad example."

Who gives a toss? I violate traffic regulations all the time, it's far easier to do accidentally on a cycle.

Incidentally, it's a 'bicycle' not a 'bycycle', you blasted townie.

It's a double blunder Av I spelt bicycle wrong and should of put this topic in the UK & Ireland Politics section. I can make typos but I am not so careless on a bike. Laughing

Typical Tory politician a law unto himself.

I think it would be unfair to fine him,ive never met a person on a bike who followed traffic rules.

Tory and Cyclist- Law unto himself twice over
