Queen of the South duo Sean O'Connor and Andy Aitken are minor fitness doubts but both should feature.

O'Connor, who has missed two games with a neck injury, will be competing with on-loan John Stewart to partner top-scorer Stephen Dobbie up front.

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood must continue without injured trio Jamie Smith, Lee Mair and Richie Byrne.

Steve Lovell and Derek Young are fit again but may have to be content with a place on the bench.

Jackie McNamara has recovered from the knock he suffered in Monday's Premier League victory over Falkirk.

Queens midfielder Neil Scally misses out due to a knee ligament injury.

Former Celtic defender Craig Reid and on-loan Kilmarnock forward Robert Campbell are both cup-tied for the First Division side.

I was chuffed for Paul Burns, I have known him since he was at primary school, know his parents well and his wee brother was a friend of my sons from primary one throught to the end of secondary school.

He didnt make it at Celtic as a youth due to his stature but he has matured into a fine young player.

Another of our local 'thurny' boys (thats netherthird, to yous outsiders) is Brian Gilmour who was on the bench, another fine young guy, when he was at Rangers our local youth club wanted for nothing, he gave us whatever we needed for auctions and he, and paul, were always willing to do their bit for the local community.

Dead pleased for them, especially paul who scored a great goal.

I was pleased to hear Queens had 10,000 support at the match. Think their ground Palmerston only holds 7000. I also heard on the radio speculation that Queens getting to the final might have a positive result in the future of the club. When I was in Dumfries in the 70s when Queens had a good player even from the youth sqaud, the bigger clubs or SPL team would secure a transfer suppose it was a money thing for the club. Good to also hear Dumfries was buzzing on Saturday night with QOS fans and Old Firm supporters from the town have declared their interest to travel to the final and support Queens and not Rangers should it be QOS v Rangers.

I was impressed with the goals and Burns performance also Rinty but worry while Aberdeen had poor defending this is something Queens must pay attention too also for the game or final 3 weeks after the end of the league. QOS would do well to score late goal(s) come the final but have to watch their stamina in 90s mins as they were very tired come injury time against Aberdeen. If they are too tired late into a final the experience or fitness of the other team could defeat them. Also remain tight and watch their defending it is all very well scoring goals early or throughout the match when you are on a run but football games do not always work that way.

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH chairman David Rae last night hailed the greatest day in Doonhamers’ history and set his sights on pushing them closer to the SPL.

Rae has vowed he will never take the Palmerston club into debt and follow the road to ruin taken by skint local rivals Gretna.

However, he admits the cash raked in from reaching the Scottish Cup final will set the club up nicely and doesn’t rule out aiming for the top-flight in the not-too-distant future.

Farmer Rae beamed: “There is no question that was the biggest day in the history of the club. We’ve never been in a final before and I can’t hide the fact there’s a big financial aspect from it. I think we can keep taking the club forward without going into the red as well. We need some ground improvements at Palmerston, but I hope we can grow and develop in a rational, sustainable manner from this cup run.

“It is a bit quick to be talking about the SPL as we have a few things we’d need to sort out. However, I wouldn’t write it off as a no-no. We don’t know if the SPL will change and we’ll have to wait and see.”

Gretna are about to go bust just two years after reaching the Scottish Cup final, but Rae pointed out: “There’s a slight difference with the way we run. We are not in the red and I will never let this club go that way. You can maybe sustain debt if you are a massive club, but you cannot do that at our level. We’ll have a surplus in the bank thanks to this cup run, though.”

No, I said that I have known him since HE was at primary school, I am more thn 20 years oder . However, he has an older brother who was at school with my brother-in-law and is about 40 while his younger brother who was at school with my son is only 19. Smile
