Hi folks

So my best pal phones me out of the blue and tells me he's getting married in TWO weeks! a bit rushed and things as he's moving abroad but it's a private ceremony e.g family of 10 and 2 close friends.

Do I still need to prepare a huge long - funny Embarassed

speech or is there different rules for this?

sorry for my un-education in Weddings.

tradition is that the best man gets up and says something, so yep you do, sure folk could give you a hand here Rolling Eyes

- although maybe not require a long speech if it's a small reception etc. Is it a private meal after the service?

I'm getting married in August and my daughters are organising the hen night, just got word last night that the limo is booked Wink

Then my 2nd eldest sez on the phone, 'mum do you want us all to get dressed up? ......... we could go as pimps and whores' Shocked

ehhrm I'm kind of old for that!! I dread to think what I'm letting myself in for!

I think it is better just to be honest and friendly about your friend, no need for humour, just say he much he means to you and wish them all the best, if there are obvious funny anecdotes that come up when thinking about how you express this then include them, if there are none then dont go looking for funny bits and try to squeeze them in.

it's only the hen night I'm letting them loose, as for the wedding I'm organising that, although goodness knows what they'll contribute to it.

Hi Folks.

Thanks for the replies. It is a registrar wedding then after to a restaurant for a meal and back to his parents house for some drinks, where a few other folk will be there. Do you think it's best to do the speech at the meal or in the house for the drinks? I'm stuck between those 2, or doing both.

Cheers also for the tips from everyone - We've been through alot together but most of stories I'm not sure are right for grandparents and parents ears Laughing

I think I'll keep it simple, add in a few jokes here's a sample of one I made up last night, -
"when woodie called me to tell me he was getting married, I was actually in an afternoon siesta style sleep and was a bit surprised to hear the phone. I answered to hear 'I've got some great news, bigman' to which I jumped out of bed and shouted ''YES! You've found my simon & garfunkel cd'' to which he replied 'no, I'm getting married' Very Happy

my second eldest lassie sez to me if you want to know when Kyle (my 15yr old) is drinking, read his Bebo!!! I think they're all at it Confused

And yes ... my 15 yr old nephew is at it too. The thing is to try and instil a sense of responsibility into them about alcohol. If you start early, it takes approximately 15 years for the message to sink in!

Cheers guys so far for all the help and links.

It's family and close friends, around 15 of us in total and the Brides family will not be there, so I've actually not even met her yet - I'm thinking of joke of this.

The wedding is in two weeks, no stag doo or anything like that. I've been racking my mind of stories when we were young and cannot really think of anything too relevant or for the right crowd. I've made up a few jokes but I've found alot of them are including myself and my reactions to him and I need to try to joke about him.
