Now where have I heard that or similar before? I think what I heard was a child of the universe all the same. _________________ I fear not hell, nor English strife,

The Foundation Set ... Asimov (all ten books)
Then I'm going to re-read the whole Riftwar Saga by Raymond E Feist all over again, in preparation of the latest volume (due out in June) ... Wrath of a Mad God.
The final volume of Robert Jordan's magnum opus The Wheel of Time is now due in 2009, cos he went and died last year didn't he, only two thirds through writing book 12, with another writer finishing it. One wonders if they'll use a medium to allow him to become a ghost-writer! Of course book 8, was a virtual waste of space not advancing the plot forward one little bit ... otherwise it would have been finished BEFORE he popped his clogs! Selfish git! |

Another great Graphic Novel I recommend is "Watchmen" by Alan Moore. It's probably one of the greatest Graphic Novels ever written.
There should be a movie coming out in the next 18 months, which Moore will no doubt have a tantrum about, since he does it with everybody he works with. The man's a genius ... but I couldnae be daein' wi' yon.
If you can, try and get a read at "The Sandman" collection of 12 Graphic Novels by Neil Gaiman. It will quite change your mind if you still think comics are for kids. A stunning achievement in pictorial story-telling! |

"The Singularity Is Near" by Ray Kurzweil.
About future trends in technology and possibilities of what that future will be like.
A lot of influential people rate it - including Bill Gates.
Decide to wait until I could get it in paperback. _________________ Scotland deserves a First rate Parliament for a First rate People

| Just going to re-read the Asimov "Foundation" series again. But not the rotten "Foundation 2" trilogy written after the great man died. |

Just finished reading Blast From The Past by Ben Elton.
It was OK but not as good as some his other books, Stark especially. _________________ Visit the Our Scotland Blog at http://our-scotland.blogspot.com/ |

| Time to recommend another complete set of Graphic Novels. The "Starman" series by British writer, James Robinson, published by DC Comics has just been reissued. Ten graphic novels that tell the story in pictures of Ted Knight and and his family from the 30s onward and into the 30th century. Sheer brilliance from one of the great names in the medium of comics. |

"Scotland's Empire" by Tom Devine Now there's a story. Interesting and uncomfortable reading re. Scottish landed interests in slavery/plantations and general subjugation of indigenous peoples from India, Caribbean to Canada/America under the new British flag. On the other hand some really good analysis of the positive influence from Scottish settlers and adventurers on education, trade, scientific/cultural progress.
Of course, you know what the trouble is with history?......its just one bloody thing after another! _________________ IT'S TIME. |
