I've never heard that he is , Cymro, but if he is appearing on a first night launch programme he must at least be a learner trying to help the language.
Good on him.
I wonder if it will be about Elvis' stop over at Prestwick Airport in the 60's.
I'll be watching anyway - if i can recieve it, we don't get Freeview in my area, but i have Sky. |

I think it's going to be available throughout the UK on Sky, not sure what channel though.
Hope they have subtitles on it. |

That's good, if it is. S4C is available throught the UK too, but for some reason you have to "phone the broadcaster" to get your digibox connected.
This would put some lazy people off - and i'm sure there's lots of them who would flick through the channels that would watch a programme in Cymraeg or Gàidhlig but not bother 'phoning to connect.

Yes, that is a must. I wouldn't watch S4C progs (except music) if there were no subtitles.
I expect there will be as all current Gàidhlig progs have them, as do BBC2NI (ch992).
Cymru can show us the way forward here. |

Not had any problems myself watching S4C on Sky whe I've been at the inlaws in Scotland. I quite often watch Gaelic programmes on BBC 2 Scotland, but it seems to have been moved from Thursday night at the moment. |

Sorry i wasn't clear there, i only had to phone once to be connected, not each time i wish to view.

I think it's just the summer holidays.
I watch some interesting English language progs on the BBC2W digital channel, one series at the moment on the meanings of Welsh place-names.
A similar prog in Scotland about Scottish place-names would be useful in igniting an interest in Gàidhlig for many Scots who are unaware of the Celtic origins of the place-names where they live. |

The channel is on Sky channel 169 down here in Wales. There are some programmes on it at the moment - was tickled to come across a Gaelic version of the Welsh childrens programme Sali Mali the other day but it's not being launched officially til the 19th of September.
And Abieuan, I'm still suprised you even have to ring once through Sky to activiate S4C, as I said my inlaws have S4C in Oban and I would be very very suprised if they rang Sky for it, they only knew it was there when I first went to their house and found it. Maybe there is some sort of problem in your area or something. |

You probably don't have to now, that was about eight or nine years ago now.(Gosh!)
And, yes , BBC ALBA is on Sky channel 169 here too
Iv'e been watching some of the archive programmes that are showing at the moment between 8 and 10 pm.
I haven't seen any publicity for the channel yet, not even on the BBC. Perhaps they are holding fire till nearer the launch. |

I've just heard from someone else that the new channel WON'T be available on freeview! How stupid is that? The main provider of digital television doesn't allow the new BBC (which is ofcourse publically funded) on it?
It's available on Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media.
