King Robert Bruce, Scotland's greatest hero and the greatest medieval warrior and king(depending upon your criteria).
A decent man in indecent times. He WON and always stayed true to Scotland, without The Bruce we wouldn't even be on this forum.
Here is a chance to inform an ignorant public of the father of Scotland.
Share what you know, learn what you don't know (me too I hope) about him.
First the bad news : The Bruce family supported the removal of John Baliol with the first invasion of Edward the First BUT The Bruce family had little choice.
What's the good news?

If you're talking about the killing of John Comyn(The Red) in Greyfriars, it is a stain(actually the fine Yorkshireman, Christopher Seaton finished off the Red Comyn) but Comyn betrayed Bruce to Edward 1st - the result would have been Bruce's execution - MOREOVER, Bruce regretted for the rest of his life the death of Comyn(Comyn wouldn't have regretted Bruce's death for a second).
Comyn likely attacked Bruce or couldn't keep his loud mouth shut at a very wrong moment. Being one of the most formidable warriors of the period, it is very unlikely Bruce went to murder Comyn because Robert the Bruce wouldn't have walked out of the church stunned leaving Comyn alive if his plan had been to kill him.
In any case one of them had to die, fortunately The Bruce lived on to wage the wars of independence.
If you're talking about any other instance then you're mistaken or misinformed(that's okay, most people generally are about Bruce and Wallace).
Bruce is legend for his courage, skills in warfare and his generosity of spirit in every way as a victor.
