I like Obama as much as the next (non Republican right wing loony) man but the nobel peace prize already?

I guess time is irrelevant but it does seem to be a tad premature to me.

Well, how come Gordon didn't get a prize for not being Tony Blair?

And there has been no change of course between Blair and Brown.

Or maybe because the UK doesn't represent the same threat to world peace that the US does. It is significant that Obama is not Bush.

Playing with words :

Obama noble nobbled nobel.

As pointless really as giving him one.

Perhaps GB will get the nobel prize for economics, in that, he experimented with an entire actual real economy and produced an unmitigated complete total financial disaster; a nobel prize for showing people what not to do to an economy... he may indirectly have saved many countries from screwing up their economies.

The problem is that Obama hasn't done anything to promote peace around the world other than talk about it.  He hasn't ended any wars and he's actually ramped up Afghanistan and has continued bombing Pakistan.  But I suppose he joins an elite class of warmongers that have won the Nobel Peace Prize, so in an Orwellian sense he certainly has earned it.

And so say all of us Kevin.

I may admire his achievements to date but 8 - 9 months into his presidency he hasn't achieve the rank of nobel prize winner.

He has averted (perhaps temporarily) a cold war with Russia and that is an achievement (i.e. if simply dismantling W's initiative counts as an achievement).

Actually, don't be afraid to start up topics on American politics - we may or may not agree but I follow the wily ways of the senate etc.  .

Indeed inaction in action, so to speak, genius!
